King’s Group is delighted to confirm that we will be opening the eighth school in our Group in September 2017. King’s College, The British School of Latvia will be located in the Saliena development in the Babites area of Riga, Latvia’s capital city.
King’s College Latvia will be the first school in the country to offer the British National Curriculum. Our teams have worked extremely hard and hand in hand with the Latvian Ministry of Education to ensure that our curriculum was thoroughly reviewed in order to meet local legislation and we are delighted to confirm that it is now fully recognised by the Education Ministry. Sir Roger Fry founder and Chairman of King’s Group commented, “Being the first British school in Latvia is an honour and the quality of our curriculum has been recognised by the Latvian Ministry of Education, allowing our students to benefit from exactly the same curriculum as an elite school in Great Britain. I am certain of the ongoing positive effects that this will have on the region in Latvia.”
Construction works have already begun for the new school, which is planned to hold up to 580 pupils, from the age of 2 (Pre-Nursery) to 18 years old (Year 13). The school will be located on a plot approximately 20.000 m2 which will hold a building consisting of two floors, 32 classrooms (including a fully-equipped Art Studio, Music Rooms, a Science Laboratory, and an ICT Suite) as well as several outdoor areas (sports, playgrounds and parking).
The school will initially operate as an infant school to educate pupil’s age 2 to 7 years old, but as these pupils naturally progress through the academic years, we will be opening a full range of year groups, until eventually the school will cater for pupils Pre-Nursery to Year 13 (age 18). Concurrently, the administrative and academic staff will expand: from 20 native British teachers for the first year to approximately 70 when the school reaches full capacity.
The curriculum of the new school will allow pupils to study from a wide range of subjects, ultimately leading to IGCSE, AS and A Level examinations, which should prepare them to go on to study at the best universities in the world.
Nicholas Fry, Chief Development Officer of King’s Group concluded, “Education is, arguably, Britain’s greatest and most appreciated export. As the person responsible for the expansion of King’s Group’s already extensive network of schools it is a great honour to welcome King’s College, The British School of Latvia, to our Group. We continue to be committed to delivering quality, excellence and success through education and firmly believe Latvia to be the perfect place to add a new member to our family.”
